Education

Portsmouth provides an outstanding public school system, as well as excellent opportunities for private education. New Port schools include Victory Elementary, William E. Waters Middle School and Woodrow Wilson High School.

New Port at Victory is home to Portsmouths' newest renovated elementary school, Victory Elementary. Now completed, the school will feature the latest in educational technology, including an innovative media and science center. The newly renovated elementary school will support the anticipated increase of school-aged children moving to the area. For the 2008-2009 school year, Victory Elementary will include grades K-6.

For higher education, the Hampton Roads area offers a variety of four-year colleges and universities, community colleges and specialty schools, including the College of William & Mary, Eastern Virginia Medical School, Old Dominion University and Norfolk State.

Portsmouth will be home to Tidewater Community College, located within New Port at Victory. TCC's Portsmouth campus will offer 12 classrooms with the First College Program, a program specifically designed for high school seniors who plan to attend a college or university after high school graduation. Credits earned through this program will transfer to larger universities, making TCC an affordable and convenient option for students seeking to continue their education. The Portsmouth campus is slated to open for the 2008-2009 school year.
